Vahagn Khachaturyan Inaugurated President of Armenia

Vahagn Khachaturyan assumed the post of the President of the Republic of Armenia today at special sitting of the National Assembly at Yerevan’s Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex.

Taking the oath of president, Khachaturyan said: “Assuming the post of the President of the Republic, I swear to be faithful to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, to be impartial in the exercise of my powers, to be guided only by national interests, to invest all my strength in the strengthening of national unity.”

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, incumbent President Alen Simonyan, Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan and other officials took part in the ceremony that was boycotted by opposition MPs.

Immediately after the inauguration ceremony, Khachaturyan visited the Yerablour Military Pantheon and paid tribute to the memory of the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the defense of motherland.

President Khachaturyan laid flowers at the graves of Armenia National Hero Vazgen Sargsyan, General Andranik, and at the wall commemorating the heroism of those who died for the freedom and independence of the homeland.
